The Smoke House Killarney Review | Lifestyle

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had an amazing Valentines day weekend!
My partner and I visited the lovely city of Killarney for a very much needed weekend away from home.

If you visit my blog often you will know that I don't  usually review restaurants ,  but this one was hard to resist.
Although Dave and I booked our B&B well in advance, we completely forgot to book a restaurant for the big night. We eventually started making calls about a week before Valentines Day , but could not find anything available. We decided to risk it and find something during our pre-dinner walk in the city of Killarney.
We ended up on No. 8, High Street and at the Smoke House. Very welcoming staff who seated us straight away even without a reservation on probably one of the busiest nights of the year .

Our table was located at the front of the restaurant  in front of the restaurants large window, which made it hard to be romantic on the night as we had people looking at us all during our dinner.
It also meant that we didn't have the opportunity to check out the back of the restaurant which looked very nicely decorated and quite relaxed.

I'm a fan of goats cheese and I find it  hard to resist when I see it on any menu , this time was no exception.  Dave and I both loved the warm goats cheese on a bed of sauteed spinach all for the grand total of € 7.00. The portion was a great size and was served on a slate plate, all food was actually.
Whats worth mentioning is that the staff was impeccable and very friend, good customer service is key for any establishment and there was loads at The Smoke House

For our main course we both opted for steak. The menu did mention that all meat comes from  the local butcher which is just next to the restaurant which was very interesting to know. Although meat was not the only main course option , it was the hardest to resist. I usually have my steak medium to well and T-Bone is my favourite. I went for the surf and turf option with crab claws (extra € 10). The price of the steak varies depending on the cut from €22-€28.  It was well cooked and accompanied with some tasty sides.
I did add  some seasoning to my steak,  but that doesn't mean it was tasteless, I was just my personal preference. Dave usually prefers chips with his steak, I went for the baked potato with crème fraîche which did taste as if it had spent some time in the microwave which was quite disappointing.
The onion rings and crab claws tasted lovely. There was a lot of food and I could not finish all of it , but it was very tasty and cooked to perfection.

With the diet out of the window it was a satisfying dinner  which was reasonably priced and made us want to come back for more ! Thank you The Smoke House for a lovely night . You get 5 stars from me. For information on the location and the menu please visit http://thesmokehouse.ie/

Have you ever had dinner at The Smoke House in Killarney? I would love to hear what you thought .
